Wem’afrika hosted the “Breaking the silence “workshop In Mile Four, Limbe. An important project set out to confront a painful but often hidden issue ‘child abuse’. Under the theme “Breaking the Silence,” .
The initiative focused on raising awareness, supporting victims, and empowering families to create safer environments for children.
Child abuse, whether physical, emotional, sexual, or through neglect, continues to affect many children, especially in crisis-affected regions. This project recognized that protecting children is not just a personal responsibility, but a community effort.
Through community outreach, training sessions, and open discussions, people were educated on how to identify, prevent, and respond to abuse. Despite challenges like low participation and limited resources, the team successfully engaged community members and gathered valuable insights.
The conference featured key speakers on child protection like Mrs Mah Ekonde spoke on the psychological effects of child abuse and the need for safe relationships with children and Barrister Elvis Visoh who outlined the legal frameworks and reporting processes that protect children. Together, their insights strengthened awareness and encouraged action within the community.
Another key highlight was an interactive workshop where experts like shared practical knowledge on the effects of abuse, legal protections, and the role of parents, teachers, and caregivers.
A powerful drama performance by children reminded everyone of the real-life consequences of abuse and the urgent need for action.
In total, 67 participants were directly impacted. More importantly, conversations were started, awareness was raised, and a strong message was shared: protecting children starts with all of us.
Together, we can break the silence and build a safer future for every child.
